The increase in energy prices is driven by the developments on the global market for energy carriers (the growing oil and gas prices), as well as the action taken by EU countries to combat environmental degradation and climate change. Presently, the situation is first an outcome of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Rising energy prices are adversely affecting economic growth and household budgets. On the positive side, however, is the reduction in energy consumption and greater coun-teraction of the negative impact of human activity on the environment. Given these preconditions, energy security has become one of the priorities of action in Poland. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the efforts of the Polish government geared towards a compromise between its energy policy priorities and environmental policy during the ongoing energy crisis and adaptation of energy consumers. The article points the key role of risk factor optimization re-flected in government strategies and the role of forecasts in their construction. The paper presents and studies issues relevant to energy security in Poland in the face of the energy crisis with a perspective of environmental protection topics and the deficit of energy resources. The Polish government’s actions and the adaptation actions of electricity consumers were examined; issues concerning energy security, environmental security and the structure of electrical power generation in Poland in recent years were reviewed. It was noted that the Polish energy policy focuses on private and institutional energy security, competitiveness, care for sustainable development, and attention to the social and cultural dimension of power engineering. It was pointed out that — despite the measures taken — comprehensive, integrated and long-term thinking about the effects of the proposed solutions to the situation is still lacking. The conclusion of this analysis is that Poland should integrate its economic policy, including the energy policy, with a climate policy. It should prioritise unconventional power engineering solutions.
